31 Flavours 02:44
Woke up with blood in my mouth The bitterness pushed the flavour out Lost the spice of life Lost the taste of fun Was it sour grapes, was it 31? Without conflict the picture’s lost You can’t predict or weigh the cost Because in real life You know we have to run Got 31 flavours but a peach ain’t one Tasting Breaking Chasing Making My senses failed me along the way Without sight or sound couldn’t relocate Had a nose for trouble A touch of sun But I found that taste wasn’t everyone’s Got stuck in a groove with a bland routine Without a deviation from the mean Had acquired taste but Deserted fun Like lifetime spent chewing only gum Thirty-one Bubble gum Overdone Honey bun Cinnamon Smoking gun Set to stun Make you come

I’m gonna quit for summer My final smoke, it ain’t no joke this time No caffeine, I really mean this time No salty snacks, yeah no more packs this time I’m off the booze, I cannot lose this time No more weed, I will be freed this time Not sniffing glue, I swear I’m through this time I’ve tossed the pills, I won’t get chills this time No ecstacy, no not for me this time Those opiods, I will avoid this time No valium, I’ll overcome this time No special K, there ain’t no way this time Ain’t taking speed, don’t feel the need this time I’m off the crack, no looking back this time No acid trip, won’t lose my grip this time No sniffing coke, the habit’s broke this time Ain’t shooting up, it has to stop this time Not going to kill, don’t need the thrill this time

Lola 04:01
I met her in a club down in old Soho Where you drink champagne and it tastes just like cherry-cola [LP version: Coca-Cola] C-O-L-A cola She walked up to me and she asked me to dance I asked her her name and in a DARK BROWN voice she said Lola L-O-L-A Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'm not the world's most physical guy But when she squeezed me tight she nearly broke my spine Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'm not dumb but I can't understand Why she walked like a woman and talked like a man Oh my Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well we drank champagne and danced all night Under electric candlelight She picked me up and sat me on her knee And said little boy won't you come home with me Well I'm not the world's most passionate guy But when I looked in her eyes well I almost fell for my Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola I pushed her away I walked to the door I fell to the floor I got down on my knees Well I looked at her and she at me Well that's the way that I want it to stay And I'll always want it to be that way for my Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Girls will be boys and boys will be girls It's a mixed up muddled up shook up world except for Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Well I'd left home just a week before And I'd never ever kissed a woman before But Lola smiled and took me by the hand And said little boy I'm gonna make you a man Well I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola lo-lo-lo-lo Lola

Bounce 03:51
Stayed up late just to write this song And by the sixth glass in, well it all went wrong Because the night is fine when it’s all you’ve got But it’s meant for friends and you know what I’m recycling songs like I’m running green Scratch that, well you know what I mean I’m just trying to find a little positive Got a thousand reasons I could give Want to hold on to that disposable feeling Party all night, fall asleep on the ceiling Drink life to it’s very last fluid ounce And in 35 years won’t be losing my bounce Went to the party, I met 25 girls I’m like, nice to meet you, uh-huh, matt searles Solid gold, like I’m running the place I wake up with my daughter punching my face Was I dreaming? I don’t mean to moan I got everything I need at home Because staying in is the new going out And being loved is what it’s all about Oh, this life is the best Yeah, that’s right, you know the rest

Others said that she was born too late But to them she was the greatest mistake They’d lost hope, it was in their eyes So to them she was the finest surprise There she was, as they were getting old Defying all that they were told They wondered how the smallest hand Could hold a heart like a parlour grand The smallest thing, the biggest joy The shortest time, left to enjoy The sleeping spirit now awake The sweetest shock, the great mistake Others said it wasn’t fair It stung them like they didn’t care A shallow mind can’t understand The deepest love is never planned Each second counts for everyone No matter what the speed we run Is we can never go (never gonna be) quite fast Enough to catch up with the past That little house was full of love They were complete, they had enough And then she came and everything Burst in to bloom, eternal spring The volume loud, the colours bright The endless days, the sleepless nights The journey’s end, at last they find The only thing we leave behind

8.
When would be the right time to put this in to words? Could it be my life-line was simply bees and birds? I’ve never thought it too wise to let myself relax But could it be those blue eyes have stopped me in my tracks? I can’t believe how I am blessed I just stand here and hold my breath It’s not a different season, it still rains midsummer’s day But you give me a reason to put those things away The line of getting better would be possible to blur This isn’t your love letter, this is gospel literature The sun is no more likely to rise if not to shine But something’s always slightly more colourful this time A constant that we hold true, a just-remembered dream Of when my arms enfold you like muscle memory And when we say “before” it’s with the ring of obsolete Although I never thought of anything as incomplete It wasn’t like a jacket in to which I finally grew I always was exactly who I am in knowing you
9.
Courtesy 02:30
Dignified silence This is as close as I get But you lost the last drop Of my true deep respect Oh I’ve made mistakes here How I cringe at the thought But I’m trying to learn lessons Really not to find fault Because this is a new thing And we don’t know the rules But the shame that you’re bringing Makes us all look like fools Courtesy…I don’t know It’s new to me…and tomorrow Honestly…Perhaps I’ll find The sun is out… and I don’t mind Courtesy…I don’t know It’s new to me…this whole freak show The comment’ry…of all our lives The sun is out…and life survives
10.
Little Steps 03:34
Where do you get your ideas from? I just sit back and anger comes I know the well will not run dry It’s never been in short supply I want to disappear Just a little bit Like I was never here Retreat in little steps I’d like to be much more profound But inspiration’s all around It’s at your door, it’s like it hears It’s in their eyes, it’s in your ears With little steps they take the land You want to fight, too tired to stand You hope that reason will prevail You want to try but know you’ll fail So end up stepping back yourself The compromise, the creeping stealth Surrender seems like much less strife It burns you up this quiet life
11.
Wolf 05:05
Everyone knows that This is my method Not the way I was born but The way that I weathered My repu Tation precedes me I’ll tell you How it is, yeah if needs be You don’t want to see these teeth You really do not want to feel this tongue If I were you I’d make believe Pretend that everybody’s having fun Cause soon the sun is gonna set And when the moon is up that’s when I turn Yeah there’s another me you haven’t met The fables told but they don’t learn Who do you think you’re talking to? I am the wolf, I am alone and this we know and so it goes, so it goes, so it goes on I am the wolf, I’m on the phone, I’m in your home, I’m in your bones, yes I know you are broken You are the wolf, you play the victim, till they’re sucked in, till they’re sold, till they’re sold, till they’re sold on He is the wolf, you let him in, encourage him, he sits and waits, as he hates yes he grows strong I’ll wear the clothing Of sheep if I have to Oh but you’ll feel the loathing If I ever catch you Yeah we’re keeping it feel good Oh we’re hiding our pains But I’ll see that your red hood Will not show up the blood stains You don’t want to hear the truth So don’t be asking me to tell it straight And you don’t want to feel the tooth Sink in to meat that you just laid on the plate ‘cause soon you’re gonna find the sun Hidden by fog, see what you get I’m telling you I’m not the one I’m not your dog, I’m not your pet

about

Methodism is my latest collection of solo material - a full LP of old-skool, beat-led electronica, which is more in keeping with the sort of music I used to enjoy making, before my solo project took me on a journey of experimentation with acoustic sounds and live instrumentation. The acoustic piano remains, along with snatches of guitar and other “real” instruments but this is me going back to basics and, at the same time, attempting to make the sort of fresh, summer-fuelled album that always makes it on to my party playlists.
